| A kitchen redesign can be a very stressful home repair project, but it's also one of the most rewarding. I have some advice on choosing counters. |
| |
|
| 1.
The most common type of countertop is laminate. You can get it in an assortment of colors and it comes in a variety of styles. The cost is between fifteen and thirty dollars a linear foot depending on the choices that you make. |
| |
| 2.
Less expensive and more versatile is ceramic tile. It comes in lots of colors and styles and costs three to five dollars a square foot, unless you have the tile installed professionally, then it will be more expensive. However, tiling a countertop is a job that you can do yourself with a little time and know how. |

| 3.
Solid surface counters are another choice. These are extremely durable and have no seams for a nice clean look. It's heat and water-resistant and scratches can be sanded out.For all that durability you will pay more. Solid surface counters run about a hundred dollars a linear foot, but it's an investment that will pay for itself if you ever sell your home. |

| 4.
For about the same cost you can also select beautiful slab stone countertops. They come in granite, marble, soapstone, limestone, marble or aggregate. They are a beautiful addition to any kitchen, plus they are virtually indestructible. |
