| Solution: |
| If you can build a box, you can make anything from a toy box to a book case. |
| |
|
| 1.
You can make a box with all sorts of corner joints; these instructions are for a basic butt joint. It's the easiest, especially if you're a beginner. Cut your wood to size. Each set of sides must be a perfect match for each other so the box will align correctly. Be sure the grain runs parallel to the side of the box. So when the wood swells, it will do so evenly. |
| |
| 2.
To check your cuts, lay the box out, carefully align the joints, and clamp the sides together. Use a steel square to check the corners and make sure that they're perfect. If the corners are squared, place your level across the top of the box to check that it isn't twisted. |

| 3.
In the morning use your sander to even out any rough edges. |
| |
| 4.
It is also a good idea when using butt joints to install some metal braces to the inside of each corner. |
